This type of filter is used to eliminate unpleasant odors or particular substances present in the air.  

The type of coal to be utilized is chosen on the basis of:  the pollutant to be eliminated and the structural shape of the filter.

The absorption, i.e., the ability of the coal to retain the substances to be eliminated, takes place thanks to the long and branched porous structure of the coal, into which the substances are stored.

The activated carbons are available in three main forms:  granular, powder or extruded.
For special applications, activated carbons are used, impregnated with chemical compounds, which allows for a broader range of possible pollutants to be captured.
